“My Son Needs Glasses” — A Mother’s View

“My Son Needs Glasses” — A Mother’s View

by Kristi Davis / Monday, 06 October 2014 / Published in Eye Care

Did you know your child’s vision can quickly change as they grow? Recently we read an article featured on Redding.com that told of a mother’s sudden realization that her son’s vision was going downhill fast and he was in need of glasses: It had been a few years since the children of Redding local Annette Osbourne had been to the eye doctor, but she had no idea just how much her son’s vision had changed until she a received a note stating that it would be a good idea to see an optometrist before beginning the new school year. Annette’s son Davey had been needing to sit at the front of the classroom to see the board and wasn’t enjoying activities like going to the movies as much as he used to. After a comprehensive exam at the optometrist, it was determined that his vision was worse than Annette suspected and he definitely needed glasses.

While Davey never had any complaints about his vision, it was easy for Annette to realize that he just had never known anything other than what he was used to seeing. Within a few moments of getting glasses, however, Davey lit up as he finally could see the world around him more clearly.

The moral of the story? With busy schedules and all of the countless other things we have to remember as mothers, one more thing to pay attention to is our children’s vision. While they may not complain of not being able to see well, kids’ eyesight can change rapidly without parents even being able to really notice easily. School exams help, but nothing can take the place of a comprehensive eye exam completed once a year at an optometry office.
