Eye Health

Eye health is something that can be easily overlooked, but it is now more important than ever to take care of our eyes. Computer screens, smart phones, and other technology are a part of our everyday lives, but can be wearing on our eyes. Below are simple things that can help keep our eyes healthy between annual exams:

We suggest an anti-reflective coating for your lenses. This is a coating applied to the surface of your lenses to reduce glare and reflection. As a result, this will reduce eyestrain and eye fatigue and can improve your vision while night driving. We also offer computer glasses with a more comfortable lens design for your eye.

Remember, safety first! If you’re doing anything where there is a chance of eye injury, you should wear protective eyewear. Always wear glasses with 100% UV protection while in the sun in order to avoid damage to your eyes. We offer polarized lenses and children’s eye wear with 100% UV protection.

To give your eyes a little exercise, try blinking and closing your eyes while rolling them around in each direction as you breathe slowly and deeply. Practicing this exercise regularly will help your eyes stay strong.

Taking the occasional break is not only good for the eyes but for the back and neck. Practice the 20-20-20 rule by looking about 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Do this every 20 minutes. Also, don’t forget to blink in order to prevent fatigue.

Getting enough sleep is the most natural form of eye care. Sleep will help relax and recharge eyes while avoiding strain, not to mention all the other benefits that your whole body gets from plenty of sleep.

Getting headaches more often than normal can be a sign of an eye health concern. Be sure to see your eye doctor if you have frequent headaches or any eye health issues.

Foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants are great for keeping eyes healthy. Try eating more vegetables including carrots, dark leafy greens, and sweet potatoes. Taking in these nutrients in whole form from foods is recommended over taking a supplement.
